PETER BEEMER was born Dec. 24, 1765, in German Calley, New Jersey. He is said to have served
in the Continental Army before coming to the Long Point Settlement in 1794. ut in 1812, he served
with the British. Peter had 6 sons for which he took up land in 1804. There was Philip R., Henry R.,
and Joseph. Another may have been Jacob. The others are not known.
"HENRY R. (Roszel) BEEMER was born Dec. 22, 1801, in Oakland Township.
HATHAWAY, his son, a millwright by trade, lived in Simcoe. He is the one who changed spelling to
Beemer to avoid confusion with the many Beemers in Simcoe. He died in 1922 at the age of 92 years.

Research Notes: The data concerning this pioneer is nearly all taken from "Pioneer sketches of the
Long Point Settlement," by E. A. Owen, published in t897, and from an article in "The Simcoe
Reformer of Feb. 17, 1927, on the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of the erection of the old
Beemer house at Colborne.
PETER BEEMER
Who came to the Niagara District in 1794, was born in New Jersey. It is said he was old enough to
serve in the Continental army during the American Revolution. In 1812 he fought on the side of the
British at Lundy's Lane. It has been stated that he had six sons for whom he took up land in Norfolk
Co., in 1804. Three of them were Philip R., Henry R. and Joseph. Possibly another was
Jacob, but the names of the other two have not been learned.
There is a tradition that the ordinal ancestor of this family was a millwright by trade, and a number
of his descendants claim there was some early connection between them and the Beamers of Lincoln
County. If this Peter was not the brother of Henry and /Philip of Norfolk, he might have been an older son of Henry of Louth there being one of his sons unaccounted for in the data preserved by the
descendants in Lincoln County but the proof is lacking.
Peter was married three times. One of his wives was Miss Roszel for whom his son, Henry R., was
named. Henry Roszel was born in Scotland, Oakland Twp., Dec. 22, 1801, and spent most of his life
there. His sun, Hathaway, a millwright by trade, resided for a time in Simcoe. While there he changed
the spelling or his name from ' ee" to "ea' to avoid confusion in mail, with several other Beemer
families living there at the same time. Thus we find all his descendants spelling with "ea," while all
the other progeny of Peter spell with "ee." Hathaway died in 1922, aged 92 years. His son Henry,
formerly of Tillsonburg, and grandson, Chas. A. now lives in Flint, Mich.
PHILIP R. BEEMER, another son of Peter, was twice married, first to Sophia Sovereign, second
to Amelia Chambers. His children were Abram, David, Peter (known as "Spunky"), Frank, William,
Levi, Priscilla, Amy, Sarah and Hannah.
